Colin Milton Thiele was born on 16th of November 1920 in Eudunda South Australia he grew up on a farm in the Adelaide hills in South Australia until he was 12. He Died On 4th September 2006 (aged 85) Brisbane, Queensland.
Colin Thiele spoke German until he went to a school in Julia Creek. He was educated at several country schools including Kapunda High School before studying at the University of Adelaide, graduating from the university in 1941.His Occupation was a novelist, poet and educational writer. Some of his notable work is Storm Boy, Blue Fin, Sun On The Stubble, February Dragon and Jodie’s Journey Also Storm Boy, February Dragon and the fire on the stubble have been made into movies or television shows.
Colin Thieles parents Carl Willhelm Thiele and Amalie Anne Witwer had five children Colin Thiele being the fourth. His grandfather was one of the early South Australian German Settlers who migrated from Germany to South Australian in 1855
Colin Thiele married Rhonda Gladys Gill and had two daughters, Janne Louise and Sandra Gwenneth. Janne married Jeffrey Minge and had four children, Benjamin, Thomas, Samuel and Amy. Sandra Married Ronald Pater and had two sons, Nicholas and Scott.
He enlisted in the army in December 1940, and was posted to the 18th light horse (Machine Gun) as a private. He was transferred to the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) in July 1942, serving out the remainder of the war as a corporal posted to Air Defence Headquarters, Higgins.
